CONCEPT : Adorn your artistic toolkit with a fun , expressive new skill — bead making ! Learn the history of the craft , which dates all the way back to 30,000 B . C ., and a variety of bead stitches to make beautiful rings , bracelets , earrings and necklaces . We start by exploring the simple daisy or flower chain stitch , and then move onto the ladder and brick stitches , using them to make Comanche-inspired dangle earrings that are fun art to wear . The final technique you master is the spiral rope chain , along with some of its many variations , to make colorful necklaces . Choose from a variety of vibrant colors as we make each design unique and special .

CONCEPT : Whip that iPhone out of your pocket and get ready to put it to exciting use ! Experiment with this powerful everyday tool to create images that capture the imagination and engage our photographic sense . We dress up portrait photographs of friends with costumes , go on photographic expeditions around the Anderson Ranch campus , and reflect on our photographs through writing . Discover how to compose photos , use new creative iPhone applications , try time-lapse and video techniques , record sound , and edit your images . At the end of the course , students take home prints of their favorite images along with newfound knowledge of iPhonography .

CONCEPT : Look beyond your everyday world in this stellar workshop , in which we find inspiration in the stars , planets , galaxies and even extraterrestrials ! Students consider the infinite possibilities of outer space and use their interpretations to make art . We study images from the Hubble space telescope to inform our preliminary sketches using pencils , watercolors and oil pastels . Then we take our galactic sketches to the next level by exploring the various applications of wax painting also known as encaustic . We spend the week using colorful wax paint , unique stencils , carving tools , collage materials and more to create out-of-this-world works of art . We even have an opportunity to look through the lens of a real telescope before the week is out ! * Please note that this workshop is for the focused young artist , as we work with heat sources , advanced tools and hot wax .
