Emergency Measures Organization The City of Martensville’s Emergency Measures Organization (generally called the EMO) has two main responsibilities: 1. To ensure that the city is prepared and can respond promptly and effectively to any hazards, disasters or emergencies that may occur; and 2. To ensure that members of the community are prepared in the event of a hazard, disaster or emergency. The EMO is actively engaged in five areas of emergency planning: 1. Prevention - The EMO will take steps to prevent an emergency from happening in the first place. 2. Mitigation - The EMO will take steps to reduce the impact of an emergency. 3. Preparedness - The EMO will have emergency plans in place before an emergency, practise the emergency plans, educate the public and ensure that people are notified in the event of an emergency. 4. Response - The EMO will take steps to ensure that any response to an emergency is coordinated, controlled and effective. 5. Recovery - The EMO will take steps to help both individuals and the community work toward returning everyone to a state of normalcy following the emergency. In the event of an emergency, individuals should have emergency supplies to last 72 hours. This will allow rescue workers to help those in urgent need first. Are you prepared? Emergency Measures Organization Coordinator Tracy Wilson-Gerwing, PhD (306) 291-4575 Notify Now The City of Martensville has launched a new Emergency Alert Notifications service that allows us to alert you when there is an emergency that may impact you and your loved ones. You can receive these important notifications by using this voluntary portal to opt-in and register your contact information and subscribe to notifications you care about based on your location. The information you provide is protected and will not be used for any other purpose. How It Works: When a notification is sent regarding a potential safety hazard or concern, you will receive a message on the voice or text communication methods that you have registered. If requested for the notification, you can confirm that you have received the message and you will not be contacted by any subsequent methods regarding that particular notification. If you do not confirm, the system will continue to attempt to reach you at all of the contact paths that you have registered. Sign up for Notifications: Through Martensville.ca, click on the ‘Notify Now’ icon and create an account and add your contact and location information into the Mass Notification system. The system will accept landlines, cell phones, email, TTY services, and fax numbers. All information you provide will be kept strictly confidential. 23
