Message from the LVUSD Superintendent

LAS VIRGENES is excited to enter its 51st year as a unified school district . The District ’ s amazing staff , magnificent students , and tremendous parental support , ensure the excellence of its schools .

The District ranks in the top two percent academically in the state . Five of the District ’ s schools have received California Distinguished School recognition — Calabasas High School , A . C . Stelle Middle School , A . E . Wright Middle School , Willow Elementary School and Yerba Buena Elementary School . Las Virgenes high schools have been nationally ranked by U . S . News and World Report , and Newsweek Magazine . In addition , the District has been named to the Advanced Placement Honor Roll by the National College Board , an award given to the top two percent of school districts in the United States and Canada . Las Virgenes received the award for increasing the number of students taking Advanced Placement ( AP ) courses and for their performance on the AP exams .

Las Virgenes is focused on expanding options and opportunities for students to ensure their educational excellence . The District is working hard on the instructional shifts necessary for students to be successful and college and career ready . Technology has been thoughtfully and purposefully infused into theclassroom to support instructional shifts and student success .

Dr . Stepenosky ’ s Biography
Daniel Stepenosky was born and raised outside of Philadelphia , Pennsylvania . He played clarinet and saxophone in his high school marching band and was an Eagle Scout . Dr . Stepenosky attended Villanova University on a Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps ( NROTC ) scholarship . He graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor of
Science degree in Physics .
Lieutenant Stepenosky served 4.5 years in the U . S . Navy , first on the Destroyer USS Waddell and then on the Cruiser USS Chancellorsville . While in the Navy , he was engaged in counter narcotics operations off the coast of South America and in Operation Southern Watch in the Persian Gulf . He received the Naval Achievement Medal , National Defense Medal , Southwest Asia Service Medal , Navy Joint Meritorious Unit Commendation , Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbon , and the Kuwaiti Liberation Medal .
After the Navy , Dr . Stepenosky received his teaching credential from the University of San Diego in 1995 ; his master ’ s degree from California State University-Northridge , in 1999 ; and his doctorate from the University of California-Los Angeles , in 2003 . He taught Physics , Advanced Placement Physics , Astronomy , and Physical Science at Beverly Hills High School from 1995-2000 , served as Assistant Principal from 2000-2003 , and Principal from 2003-2006 .
Dr . Stepenosky joined the Las Virgenes Unified School District ( LVUSD ) in 2006 and served as Assistant
