2016-2017 PCA Press Issue 21 | Page 13

Saturday, January 7th, Daylan Brooks attended Area in Waco, Texas. Area is a 3 round singing competition, and if he made all 3 rounds, it could lead to state. All he had to do to participate was sign up and memorize music for his performance to make it there. He got 16th chair out of 30! The judges only take the top 2 to state in San Antonio, Texas to compete. Daylan said that at Area, he did not have a lot of fun, because the process was super slow. He had to sat for a while until it was his turn, and he said it was very nerve racking. He couldn’t have his phone, being one of the rules, so he waited anxiously listening to who he was going up against. Daylan mentioned to us that the only hard part about it was the song he sang was in German and Latin. He had mixed feelings about being the only one from PCA participating, but he was very glad he went and got to experience that. Daylan is wanting to audition again next year so he can attend again, because even though he was extremely nervous, it helps him be confident when singing. Daylan’s overall favorite part was being able to just go out and enjoy the awesome opportunity.
