Within minutes is Lake Wildwood, a gated community founded in 1960 as a weekend retreat, now home to permanent residents who enjoy its many amenities including a golf course and lake. With ponds, creeks, trails and meadows, Indian grinding rocks, 175 species of birds, activities include fishing, hiking, equestrian trail riding, bicycling, hunting and seasonal camping. During there was WWII a mock German Village used practice war games; concrete machine gun bunkers can still be seen. Wildflower season early-March to May. The season peaks in mid-April.
