 TRUCKEE HIKING, LAKES, CAMPING, SKIING R E C R E A T I O N Truckee is located in an area known for a wide range of recreational opportunities many in the Tahoe National Forest. Listed are some found in Nevada County. Mt. Lola Trail Camping Hiking Available at Stampede, Boca, Prosser, Jackson Meadows Reservoirs, and at Donner State Memorial Park (Reserve America 800444-7275). Also at Sagehen, nine miles north of Truckee and two miles west of Hwy. 89. Turn left at the Sagehen Summit turnoff. Rough road in, free. See page 89. MT. LOLA TRAIL: Climbs moderately to top of Mt. Lola, highest peak in the Tahoe National Forest. Campsites with water abundant. Most difficult, 9 ½ miles one way. From Truckee, take Hwy. 89 north to Service Road 07 (Jackson Meadows Reservoir turnoff) west fo r 1.3 miles. Left on Independence Lake Road south to junction with S301. Turn right at first intersection and continue west for about 3 miles to trailhead. See page 84 for more info. DONNER LAKE RIM TRAIL: Trail encircling the peaks around lake,15 of 23 miles of signed trail completed. Views of lake, Mount Rose, Pacific Crest. Popular with water and jet skiers, interpretive trail tells history of area. Off I-80, seven miles east of Truckee. STAMPEDE RESERVOIR: Just inside Sierra County, one of the best kokanee salmon fishing lakes in the west. Bald eagle viewing. 25 miles of shoreline. Motorized boats are allowed WARREN LAKE: One of the toughest hike-in lakes in our area, but also one of the most rewarding and scenic. On the western side of the lake there are a number of inviting campsites. Lahontan cutthroat trout have been planted. Recommended as a two-tothree day hike. MARTIS CREEK LAKE: Closest lake to downtown Truckee and airport with camping. No motorized boats allowed. Canoes and rafts ok. Nearby prime bird watching at Hopkins Ranch and Waddell Ranch Preserve. tdlandtrust.org/martis-valley WAYDE CARROLL PROSSER RESERVOIR: Picnicking, boating, fishing. On Hwy. 89 north, not far from I-80 exit. Donner Lake Boat Ramp and shore park with fishing pier, picnicking on Donner Pass Road.
