ONSIDERED THE GATEWAY TO THE Sierra Nevada, Truckee is being singled
out as a ski town of note. There are more than a dozen ski resorts easily
accessible from this historic town. Truckee has been placed on the State
Historic Register and part of Old Town is on the National Register of Historic
Districts. With the Truckee River flowing by and snowcapped mountains in view,
visitors can explore delightful shops, galleries, a variety of restaurants and pubs,
and landmarks that date from the 1860s. Using Truckee as a base, it is a short trip
to Reno, Nevada and scenic Lake Tahoe.
