Goal 3 : Every Tennessee student graduates from high school prepared for postsecondary education and the workforce . Postsecondary enrollment and degree attainment rates by 2020 should be supporting achievement of Tennessee ’ s Drive to 55 .
Tennessee is in the midst of a bold effort toward the goal of 55 percent of Tennesseans holding a postsecondary credential by the year 2025 . By that time , more than half of the jobs in Tennessee will require such a credential . Currently , just under 39 percent of Tennesseans hold a postsecondary credential . 11 To encourage more students to consider college , Tennessee has sought to lower financial barriers to access . Through the Tennessee Promise program , students meeting eligibility criteria now have the opportunity to earn a one- or two-year credential at a Tennessee Center of Applied Technology ( TCAT ) or community college at no tuition cost to them . Additional aid is available to make fouryear colleges and universities statewide more affordable for more students .
