JOHN RAINES has taught in the religion department
at Temple University for the past 47 years. Raines, a
“Freedom Rider” who was jailed in 1964, joined the
anti-Vietnam movement. Eventually, he and his wife
Bonnie became a part of The Citizens Commission
to Investigate the FBI, which led to Betty Medsger’s
revelations of civil rights violations.
BETSY REED is Editor-in-Chief of The Intercept.
Previously, she was Executive Editor of The Nation,
where she led the magazine’s award-winning
investigative coverage.. She has edited several
bestselling books, including Jeremy Scahill’s
Blackwater and Dirty Wars. Reed co-edited the New
York Times bestseller Going Rouge: Sarah Palin –An
American Nightmare.
ELSPETH REVERE is Vice President of Media,
Culture, and Special Initiatives at the MacArthur
Foundation. Her responsibilities at the foundation
include “support for media in a technologically
changing environment... strengthening American
democracy, arts and culture in Chicago, grants
in response to special opportunities, and the
Foundation’s program of institutional grants.”
JAMES RISEN is a The New York Times reporter
who previously worked for the Los Angeles Times.
He is the author or co-author of two books about the
Central Intelligence Agency and a book about the
American public debate about abortion. Risen is a
two-time Pulitzer Prize winner.
