ALEX GIBNEY received a Best Feature-Length
Documentary Oscar in 2008 for Taxi to the Dark
Side, a Best Director nomination from the Directors
Guild of America, and a Writer’s Guild award for
Best Screenplay. Gibney received an Academy Award
nomination in 2006 for Enron: The Smartest Guys in
the Room.
JOHANNA HAMILTON co-produced Pray the
Devil Back to Hell, about women demanding peace
for Liberia, which won the Grand Jury Prize for Best
Documentary at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival. In
Fall 2011, it led the PBS mini-series Women, War &
Peace, which won the Overseas Press Club Edward R.
Murrow Award for best documentary. The film 1971 is
her documentary feature debut.
LAURA HANDMAN, a partner at the law firm of
Davis Wright Tremaine, has extensive experience
in libel, newsgathering, privacy, right of publicity,
reporter’s privilege and First Amendment matters. She
obtained the first decision in U.S. courts refusing to
enforce foreign libel judgments as inconsistent with
the First Amendment.
MATTHEW HEINEMAN’s latest film CARTEL
LAND premiered in the U.S. Documentary
Competition at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival,
where Heineman won the Best Director Award and
Special Jury Prize for Cinematography. The film will
be released in theatres in the Fall of 2015 and have it’s
broadcast premiere on A&E in 2016.
