Alex Gibney, in Conversation with Franklin Foer
Award-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney has long bridged investigative
journalism and filmmaking. He has tackled some of the most topical
stories of our day, including political and corporate corruption, deception
by sports figures, and sexual abuse in the Catholic church. His film
Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief (2015) recently won
three Emmys. Franklin Foer, an author and fellow at the New America
Foundation, is a former editor of The New Republic.

Crossing Boundaries, then and now: A Case Study
of 1971 featuring activists of “the burglary” and
Edward Snowden
On March 8, 1971 a group of citizens broke into the FBI’s office in Media,
PA, took hundreds of secret files, and shared them with the public. Johanna
Hamilton’s compelling film 1971 is their story. The film screening will be
followed by a rare opportunity to hear from the members of the Citizens’
Commission who carried out the break-in, and will discuss the ongoing
issues of government overreach and first amendment rights that still
occupy the public debate more than 40 years later.
With Charles Lewis (moderator), Johanna Hamilton, David Kairys, Betty
Medsger, Edward Snowden, Bonnie Raines and John Raines.
