Alex Gibney, in Conversation with Franklin Foer Award-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney has long bridged investigative journalism and filmmaking. He has tackled some of the most topical stories of our day, including political and corporate corruption, deception by sports figures, and sexual abuse in the Catholic church. His film Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief (2015) recently won three Emmys. Franklin Foer, an author and fellow at the New America Foundation, is a former editor of The New Republic. Johanna Hamilton’s compelling film 1971 is their story. The film screening will be followed by a rare opportunity to hear from the members of the Citizens’ Commission who carried out the break-in, and will discuss the ongoing issues of government overreach and first amendment rights that still occupy the public debate more than 40 years later.
