2015 Double Exposure: Investigative Film Festival & Symposium | Page 22
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 1
A Case of Identity
Investigative journalist… Filmmaker… Visual storyteller… What do each
of these identities mean for the way stories are told, for the role of the
storyteller, for ethics and legal protections? As the boundaries between
these crafts blur and collide, are the distinct identities vanishing as well,
or are they more important than ever?
With Carrie Lozano (moderator), Brenda Coughlin, Brian
Knappenberger and Dan Krauss.
Access and Advocacy
Many investigative news reports and documentaries rely on government
sources for facts and commentary. In the past, these exchanges were
facilitated by certain standards for objective reporting. But such clear
lines are harder to draw in today’s mix of traditional journalism,
documentaries, advocacy media and other approaches. A bipartisan panel
of current and former Congressional, Federal Agency and White House
spokespeople will discuss the challenges and opportunities these changes
present for government sources and those who
cover them.
With Alisia Essig, Will Jenkins and Brenda Jones.
Truth to Power: Trapdoors
Journalists and filmmakers are increasingly taking on powerful corporate
interests and institutions. What happens when the targets of investigations
go after the investigator? What are the areas of vulnerability, and how can
reporters and visual storytellers protect themselves?
With Walter Robinson (moderator), Kirby Dick, James Risen, Drew
Sullivan and Katie Townsend.
Encryption Workshop
Do you find encryption more hassle than hero? This workshop will give
you a basic toolkit for protecting the confidentiality of communications.
Your sources will thank you.
With Cindy Cohn, Harlo Holmes and Greg Norcie.
