additional highlights Larsen Playground- The new playground features a preschool play structure, disc swing, spinners, and a sculpted replica of the old F-8 Crusader jet that delighted kids at the park for many years. Completed with support from the Friends of Larsen Playground, the San Francisco Parks Alliance, Supervisor Katy Tang and Assessor-Recorder Carmen Chu. Progress on Golden Gate Park Recycled Water Project- Rec and Park secured PUC funding for a Junior Engineer position that will help facilitate future recycled water systems throughout the park. Project will include a first-ever schematic of entire network of current irrigation systems throughout the park. Joe DiMaggio Playground- The recent renovation of Joe DiMaggio Playground was a $7.3 million project under the 2012 Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond, completed with support from the Friends of Joe DiMaggio Playground. The new playground includes an expanded and improved children’s play area, new landscaping and resurfaced sports courts. PGA TOUR at TPC HardingWe successfully delivered the PGA TOUR Cadillac Match Play Tournament at TPC Harding Park. The golf course conditions received rave reviews from across the golf industry. Mansell Streetscape ImprovementsA renovation project that will transform McLaren Park roadways is underway. The project, based off priorities of the community and the city, will greatly improve the connectivity, safety, and natural integration of the street to the park, without compromising the role of the corridor. Park Maintenance Training for StaffIn collaboration with the Bay Friendly Landscaping & Gardening Coalition and SF Environment, we successfully certified 100 park maintenance and operations managers and supervisors in sustainable landscaping design and sustainable landscaping practices. Hopes for the Future- The Department broke ground on South Park, Mountain Lake Park and the Randall Museum. These special places will be renovated with public funding and resources generated by deeply committed community members. Volunteer Hours Increase- Our volunteer division supports 187,000 hours annually of stewardship towards our 220 parks and recreation centers citywide; volunteers provide an in-kind donation of $4.9 million to the department each year.
