Message From Chief David O . Brown

I am pleased to present the 2015 Annual Report highlighting the work and accomplishments of the men and women of the Dallas Police Department who strive every day to make the City safe . Their commitment to serve and protect is what makes the Dallas Police Department the best in the nation .
In 2015 , the City continued its unprecedented era of 12 consecutive years of crime reduction . Dallas has one of the largest crime reductions on record of any major Texas City or metropolitan City in the Country . Beyond an overall reduction in crime , 2015 marked the 4th lowest murder rate on record .
Despite managing multiple service priorities , staffing challenges and increased calls for service , the men and women of the Dallas Police Department showed perseverance and dedication to the communities in which they serve . The Department stands committed to staying abreast of the many challenges facing law enforcement while building and maintaining trust and legitimacy .
The Department expanded Community Engagement Initiatives with the addition of the Dallas Zoo and Love Field Airport as locations for the “ Chief on the Beat ” Crime Prevention Safety & Health Fairs . The Department also partnered with the Dallas Area Rapid Transit ( DART ) Police for the first “ DARTing with the Chief on the Beat ” event . This event enabled officers to meet with and talk to citizens riding the rail during their morning commute .
Another first for community engagement efforts included a large-scaled youth outreach event known as the “ Let ’ s Talk ” Dallas Police and Youth Forum . The event was held August 2015 and over 1,000 youth , ages 10-15 , attended to openly discuss , ask questions and learn about law enforcement .
The commitment and spirit of professionalism displayed throughout 2015 continues to illustrate the best of our department . On behalf of the men and women on the Dallas Police Department , I want to personally thank the citizens of the City of Dallas for your support and participation .
