Tennessee was recognized as the fastest improving state in the nation on fourth- and eighth-grade math and reading scores on
the 2013 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). These gains were sustained in 2015, with the exception of fourthgrade reading.
For the first time on a NAEP examination, Tennessee fourth-graders scored in the top half (25th) of students nationally in math.
