Run to Penn Station NY The Bridges Run The Run (outreach visit) is at the heart of our mission. The Run consists of a group of trained volunteers, along with a Bridges employee, going directly to the streets and shelters to meet with homeless men, women and children. On a typical Run, our yellow truck is loaded with fresh brown bag lunches, sustainable (long shelf-life) lunches, beverages and hot soup, as well as other necessities for people living on the street or in dire need. This smaller, midweek Run has grown so that we consistently see 50 to 60 people every Wednesday night. We are committed to serving this population weekly. Some NYC-based Run groups meet us in midtown after work to volunteer with the Run. Core Volunteers Our Core volunteers provide continuity and perform the role that volunteers did in Bridges’ early days when the same small group went on Runs every week. Our Core volunteers know and are known by the people they see on the Run, and have genuine relationships with the people we meet each week. 13,000 Sustainable Lunches Delivered These shelf stable lunches are popular with everyone; they give volunteers flexibility as to when to make the lunches, and Bridges and people on the street can use them when needed.
