She also was a member of the UNCP University Athletics Committee, represented the school at the PBC Women in Athletics Seminar and attended PBC SAAC meetings. Perez plans to stay at UNC Pembroke to pursue her master’s in teaching with the goal of being a licensed physical education teacher and high school track & cross country coach. Francis Marion Wins SunTrust Connecting Communities Award HILTON HEAD, SC – The Francis Marion University athletic department was presented with the 2016 SunTrust Connecting Communities 2015-16 Awards on Tuesday night at the PBC annual awards banquet in Hilton Head. FMU received the honor for ‘Boys and Girls Club Day’ which brought hundreds of local youth to the FMU campus for a day of interaction with Patriot student-athletes. The event was sponsored by Pepsi of Florence and Walmart to engage the Pee Dee Area Boys and Girls Club and promote the Walmart Fighting Hunger Program. Walmart hosted live radio remotes with FMU Athletics and Pepsi in various locations across the Pee Dee region, giving local residents the opportunity to contribute to the Fighting Hunger program by purchasing Aquafina or Lipton products. Residents could also enter to have a chance to win free admission to a Peach Belt Conference baseball doubleheader between FMU and Georgia Southwestern State on April 23. Free admission to the game was also provided to the various chapters of the Pee Dee Boys and Girls Club. Over 150 children were in the stands for the PBC doubleheader on the 23rd, each of them given free concessions by the FMU athletic department. The SunTrust Connecting Communities award is designed to recognize efforts undertaken by PBC member institutions to reach out and be a partner with their local and regional communities.
