PBC CHAMPIONS! Armstrong State Claims 13th
Straight Women’s Tennis Tournament Title
FLORENCE, S.C. - The top-seeded and No. 3-ranked Armstrong State
University women’s tennis team captured its 13th straight Peach Belt
Conference tournament title with a 5-0 win over second-seeded and
No. 8-ranked Columbus State University on Sunday at the Dr. Eddie
Floyd Florence Tennis Center in Florence, S.C.
The Pirates (26-1) also notched the 22nd overall PBC Tournament title in the 26-year history of the tournament. Armstrong State
earns the league’s automatic bid into the NCAA Championships and
will find out its regional opponents in a NCAA.com selection show on
May 3rd. Columbus State falls to 19-6 on the season.
Armstrong State swept all three doubles matches from the
Cougars to take a commanding 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
Carolina Prats-Millan and Alice Patch picked up an 8-3 win over Rachael Williams and Oliviera Tadijin at No. 3 doubles, then Nicole Fossa
Huergo and Lena Pacholski collected an 8-2 win over Beatriz Leon and
Giorgia Vitale at No. 2 doubles. No. 3-ranked Lena Lutzeier and Diana
Stomlega finished off the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win over No.
10-ranked Camila Tobar and Kirsa Utech at No. 1 doubles.

The Pirates then clinched the title with a pair of straight-set
singles wins. No. 48-ranked Prats-Millan beat Tadijin, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3
singles, then Patch defeated Williams, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 6 singles.
Peach Belt Sends Six Women’s Tennis Teams to NCAA
Tournament
INDIANAPOLIS, IND – Six Peach Belt Conference women’s tennis teams
learned late Monday that their seasons will continue as the NCAA
released the field for the national championships. Armstrong State and
Columbus State will serve as hosts of the NCAA Southeast Regional with
play beginning this Sunday, May 8. Flagler, Georgia College, Francis
Marion and USC Aiken also received bids to the tournament.
The No. 3-ranked Armstrong State women’s tennis team (26-1),
defending NCAA Division II National Champions and winners of six
of the last eight titles, will begin action on Sunday, May 8, hosting
eighth-seeded and Conference Carolinas champion Erskine (18-5)
at 10:00 a.m. at Bacon Park. The other matchup on Sunday will pit
fourth-seeded Georgia College (20-8) and fifth-seeded Francis Marion
(19-6), both out of the Peach Belt Conference, also at 10:00 a.m.
2015-16
