ST. AUGUSTINE, FLA – The Armstrong State University women’s golf
team held of furious attacks during Sunday’s final round to complete
their wire-to-wire victory in the 2016 PBC Women’s Golf Championship on Sunday. The title is the second for Armstrong State in the
event after winning their first in 2012. The Pirates finished with a
three-round score of 927, seven strokes ahead of Flagler and eight
ahead of Montevallo.
Flagler’s Linn Weber won the individual title with a final round
78 and three-day score of 225 (+6).
Armstrong State statistically had their worst round of the tournament on Sunday, but had built up such a lead that their final round
318 was enough to secure the title. Armstrong State opened the
event on Friday with a 301 and shot 308 in Saturday’s second round.
Pamela Moseley had the round of the day for Armstrong State,
firing a three-over 75 to finish tied for fourth with a 230. Brendie

Flagler equaled their second-round 313 on Sunday and were
able to shave five strokes off ASU’s lead to finish seven back at 934.
The biggest mover of the day was Montevallo. The Falcons
began Sunday in fourth place 22 strokes back and proceeded to shoot
a 304 on Sunday, the low round of the day and second-lowest of the
tournament. That shaved 14 strokes off the deficit and left the Falcons
in third, just one behind Flagler.
A junior from Neu-Isenburg, Germany, Weber becomes the first
Flagler women’s golf player to claim the PBC Individual Championship.
Her final-round 78 was enough to hold off teammate Stephanie Tucker
by three strokes. Montevallo’s Elaine Wood tied the low round of the
day with a 73 to jump six spots into third with teammate Arin Eddy
and ASU’s Moseley tied for fourth. The top five finishers were named
to the All-Tournament team.
