only the fifth Lady Cougar to record at least three assists in a single
match.
Corcione is now atop the PBC leaderboard in all three major
offensive categories. Through 12 matches, she has 10 goals, seven
assists and 27 points. She ranks sixth in the nation in assists while
being 11th in points and 19th in goals.
Five PBC Women’s Soccer Players Named Academic
All-Americans
AUSTIN, TEXAS – Five Peach Belt Conference women’s soccer players
have been named Academic All-Americans as selected by the College
Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). A PBC-record four
of those players were selected to the first team. The five players
is the second-most in one season in league history, following the
six selections in 2012. The CoSDIA Academic All-America award is
largely considered the highest individual honor a student-athlete can
receive.
Columbus State becomes only the second PBC team in league
history to have three Academic All-Americans, joining Armstrong
who had three in 2012. CSU’s Maylyn Parsons, Nicole Corcione and
Shelby Rolling were all named first-team.
The other PBC selections were Clayton State’s Maria Marti Bartis
on the first team and Georgia College’s Ally Barys on the second team.
The CSU trio becomes the fifth, sixth and seventh Lady Cougars
to be named Academic All-Americans in program history joining
Kayla Brown (2011, 2012), Catherine Lovin (2012) and Kelsey Pelletier
(2014). Only Brown in 2012 was a First Team selection.
“I could not be more proud of these three girls,” said head coach
Jay Entlich. “They work extremely hard on the field, but they are also
excellent students and take pride in their academics and they were
rewarded for that today.”
The Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year, Corcione has
turned in one of the top seasons in program history. The Candler,
N.C. native has scored 15 goals on the year, including one in Sunday’s
national quarterfinal victory over fourth-ranked Barry. Corcione has
also added 13 assists on the season, which ranks third in the country.
The junior continues to climb the all-time record charts for the Lady
Cougar program, ranking fourth in points (94), fourth in goals (35)
and second in assists (24). Sunday’s goal gave Corcione 43 points
on the season, tying the CSU single-season record set by Stephanie
Lowery in 2010.
Much like Corcione, it’s been a banner year for fellow junior
Parsons. The Lady Cougar keeper has played nearly 1,900 minutes in
net accumulating a 0.76 goals-against average. An All-PBC selection,
Parsons has made 74 saves on the season and holds a 0.822 save percentage. The Greenville, S.C. native has made 13 scoreless appearances
on the season, but none bigger than the shutout of Barry on Sunday.
Parsons ranks second in Columbus State history with 44 wins and 22
shutouts over her career.
One of the more decorated players in CSU history, Rolling is
wrapping up a phenomenal career in a Lady Cougar uniform. The
senior became just the 10th women’s soccer player in Peach Belt
