An Interview with Darius Rucker

He said the lenses go from light to dark without him noticing , adding that this means there is no longer a need for him to squint when harsh spotlights hit his eyes .
“ Whether I ’ m performing outdoors or traveling , they keep my eyes comfortable . The Transitions XTRActive lenses are so good , they darken even when I ’ m driving ,” he said .
When Transitions Optical approached him about becoming an ambassador , he said there was little persuasion needed .
A firm believer in the product and having experienced the positive effects both on stage and in day-today life , Rucker was happy to come on board .
“ Transitions lenses have been an important part of my daily life for several years now , so teaming up with them was a natural fit ,” he said . “ The partnership I have with Transitions Optical ties in so well with the things that are important to me .”
Rucker has traveled the globe performing to sold-out houses . He says his favourite place to play is the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts outside Washington , DC .
During the recent Transitions
Academy in Florida , Rucker wowed attendees with an exclusive concert featuring music from his early albums and his more recent country hits .
Rucker hasn ’ t allowed his change in eyesight to affect his ability to go on stage and perform .
He said other artists shouldn ’ t wait until it is too late to do something about poor vision .
“ The ability to see clearly is how we connect with the world around us . As a musician , whether I ’ m writing , playing or listening , vision is a key part of the experience ,” he said , adding that he has experienced firsthand the importance of getting his eyes checked and maintaining good eye health .
He hopes his own experience will be a source of inspiration for other artists . Rucker has looked to others within the industry for both personal and professional inspiration including musician Radney Foster and Michael Stipe , frontman of REM .
Rucker will be taking this message on the road at several Transitions Optical sponsored events in 2013 .
He will be appearing at community outreach programs for underprivileged children , where many kids will receive free eye exams and Transitions lenses if needed .
“ As part of that mission , we have big plans for this year ’ s CMA Music Festival and CMA Music Awards Show , which takes place in Nashville , and the Hootie & The Blowfish Homegrown Concert & Roundup in my hometown , Charleston , South Carolina ,” he said .
This year . fans will also be excited to get their hands on his new album “ True Believers ”.
It will be his work with the Transitions ® brand , however , that will have a huge impact on the health and wellbeing of countless people as he begins his work as an ambassador .
“ Being an ambassador for Transitions lenses gives me a great opportunity to help educate others to take care of their eyes and not take their vision for granted ,” he said . “ Get an eye exam and make sure your entire family including the kids do as well . If your eye doctor says that you need eyeglasses , ask him or her about Transitions lenses .” •
