Covers/ cards individually sleeved and most identified by railroad and other pertinent information including dates of operation, mileage & Towle ‘U.S. ROUTE AND STATION AGENT POSTMARKS’ catalog number. Majority of covers have Towle cat of $15-$25 each, with some higher. Owner’s detailed inventory also included. Interesting collection. Expect some weak or blurred strikes and some usual cover faults. PH $3000 Flag and ‘One Flag and One Government’ patriotic envelope to Scotland, franked with sound and very fine example of Scott #37 (24¢ Washington), tied by black grid cancel and red exchange office postmark. June 30, 1861, Dundee receiver on back. Tiny tone spots on flag design, hinge remnants on back. Fine to very fine. (2011 PF Cert #496932). Cat $4000. 2249 1944-45 ‘LINTO’ PATRIOTIC WWII COVERS (x39) ............................................................................... PH $300-400 Scarce group of 39 different ‘LINTO’ cacheted World War II related Patriotic covers. Nearly all issued in quantities of fewer than 50, some of these as few as 16 were issued. All appear sound, some have the usual mounting stains on back corners (doesn’t show on face). Generally very fine. 2253 1850s-70s R.R. CANCEL COVER COLLECTION & TOWLE CATALOG ...................................................... $500-700 Collection of 36 (33 different) covers/cards with railroad cancels on stock pages in binder, plus a copy of 1986 ‘U.S. ROUTE AND STATION AGENT POSTMARKS’ by Towle, published by Mobile Post Office Society. Covers individually sleeved and most identified by name of railroad & dates of operation & some with additional information regarding route, mileage, Towle catalog number & rarity factor. Few cancel highlights include (by Towle): Boston & Albany R.R. (1847-61) #53-B-2 on stampless cover; Michigan Central R.R. (1851-57) #610A-2; extremely rare St. Louis & Keokuk S.B. N-12-a (steamboat, 1851-61). Also ‘Joliet Cut Off,’ Detroit & Milwaukee, Dubuque & Southwestern and other cancels. Towle total catalog value $1,400-$2,800. KIMBALL’ STEAMBOAT W/ SCOTT #11 WASHINGTON 3¢ DULL RED ................................... PH 186 $300 Distinct red double-line oval ‘STEAMER/P.F. KIMBALL’ strike on 1852 folded letter from Alexandria to New Orleans. Scarce marking, Milgram 1101. Stamp canceled by light ms marking. Interesting content of letter discusses mis-shipment of cotton and mentions steamboats ‘ECHO,’ ‘DALMAN,’ ‘ST. CHARLES,’ ‘BEE,’ ‘E.H. FLINT,’ ‘CHOCTAW,’ ‘FOX KEEL,’ ‘RAPIDE’ and ‘MOHAWK’ as writer tries to piece together what happened to shipment. First marking from this inland waterway vessel we’ve seen! Ex-H Bohren.
