Through Race to the Top funds,
the state awarded grants to higher
education institutions to implement
innovative professional development
for K-12 teachers in STEM subject
areas. In 2012, the Tennessee Higher
Education Commission awarded
18 STEM Professional Development Grants to seven postsecondary institutions. These grants are
being used to serve more than 300
