The township is celebrating its 300th anniversary this year with a number of community events . Despite being less than three square miles long , the township is accessible to Routes 46 and 80 and the Garden State Parkway , while Routes 4 and 17 are no more than quarter mile away . Market Street features a number of shops and restaurants to keep locals happy . There are also a number of fields for youth sports teams or residents looking for a fun afternoon .

This northern Bergen borough ranks among the top three wealthiest communities in the county , along with Alpine and Franklin Lakes . Broad , flat farmlands interwoven with wooded , rolling hills make it a community filled with strawberry and apple farms . Although many of Saddle River ’ s old stone farmhouses can still be found in the borough , more modern architectural designs dot the landscape .
