Shores of the Hackensack River form
the western boundary of New Milford, a
community steeped in history and known as
the “Birthplace of Bergen County” for its link
to the American Revolution. The borough
is near historic New Bridge Landing, the
site where Gen. George Washington led his
troops in retreat from the British, saving
them from defeat.
