MERCAT BOUTIQUE
Founded in 2012 by John and Jenny Hwang, Mercat Boutique carries women’s and men’s luxury and contemporary clothing, accessories, shoes, sunglasses, watches and gifts. The married couple has operated Mercat
Outdoor, located across the street from the boutique since 1999. Jenny says that while outerwear was the
boutique’s strongest category in the past, the store is a one-stop shop, offering customers a wide selection
of merchandise. The shop’s most popular items include Nobis and Moncler outerwear, knits from Zadig &
Voltaire, and sweaters and sweatshirts from Kenzo and Opening Ceremony. City Place, 27 The Promenade,

18/8 FINE MEN’S SALON
A new Edgewater men’s
salon is reinventing the
barbershop. 18/8 Fine Men’s
Salon caters to men who are
looking to get pampered
after a hard work week.
When a client enters the
salon, he is greeted by the
DOFI (director of first impression), who offers a beverage
of choice from beer, wine,
soda and water, or a coffee or cappuccino. Clients are also asked their
music preference, which plays on speakers in the salon and separately in
private VIP and pedicure rooms. 18/8 offers an “executive haircut,”
which includes a five-minute neck and shoulder massage, scalp cleansing
and conditioner, and hot towel finish. A “classic shave” lasts 30 minutes
and includes a hot lather, straight-edge blade shave, and an aromatic
hot towel at the end. The shop also offers high-end hair care and
shaving products. City Place, 225 River Road, (201) 992-8001,
