n interesting name for a drink. An even more interesting
history. The drink was created back in 1941 by blending
two liquors no one wanted – vodka and ginger beer.
John Martin, owner of Smirnoff Vodka distillery, and Jack
Morgan, creator of his own brand of ginger beer, combined their
concoction inside copper mugs that Russian immigrant Sophie
Berezinski carried with her when moving to America. She
couldn’t find a seller for the mugs until she walked into Cock ‘n’
Bull, the Sunset Strip bar owned by Martin. Martin and Morgan
knew the copper mugs would make the drink stand out and
keep it cold.
The creation of Moscow Mule put vodka on the map.
