he original cookie dating from a ninth century Italian monastery,
the macaroon can be produced in a few different varieties. The
most common in America is the commercially-made coconut
macaroon with its moist, sweet and dense star shape, often dipped
in chocolate. Homemade varieties are typically made with nuts and
are shaped individually and have a lighter consistency. This sweet
cookie is traditionally served during the observance of
Passover because it contains no flour or leavening. ●
