of confrontation, in today's society, privacy is a sensitive issue. Having that in the back of your mind will affect the way you shoot. Every street photographer will encounter at some stage a hostile exchange of some nature. If you are spotted, a simple smile will generally defuse the situation. However, if it becomes more complicated, it's best to engage in conversation with the subject, explain to them what you are doing. It is the unknown that triggers the tension for the subject. Once they know what you are photographing and are comfortable with your intentions, they might allow you to take a few more snaps. If all else fails, simply offer an apology, then walk on. There is no point in arguing and causing a scene as there are plenty of other opportunities ahead.
