32 Below Grand Opening By John Anders Some of you might notice a new bar that has opened in downtown Shawnee, Kansas. The name of the place is 32 Below. The Grand Opening was planned for mid-March and they seemed to have a good turnout. Roughly 200 people came out for refreshments and to check out the new place. 32 Below used to be known as Penny Droppers and for those of you who have been there before know the famous floor that is covered in pennies with a clearcoat over it. I asked the new owner, Jon, if he planned on keeping the floor the same and he was quite confident for now it will stay. On your first visit to the new place you will feel comfortable knowing not much has changed except new food on the menu and drink specials. There is a pool table for us bikers to enjoy a friendly game of billiards and also a dart board for us who like to throw sharp objects. There is also a jukebox loaded with everything from hip hop to classic rock. Monday thru Wednesday there are poker games going on starting at three pm. Also if you’re into fights Jon will be broadcasting different MMA and boxing events on the big screen. I know how hard it can be to find a good place to watch fights. Now there is a local place to go without having to deal with bad service and huge crowds. During the summer Jon will be firing up the smoker and offering different types of smoked meat. Wednesday nights will be when they host their Bike Nights, where you can find $2.50 wells, $2.50 domestic draws, and $4 import draws. There will be plenty of bikes since the owner of 32 Below and his wife are well known friends of Turkey Creek Cycles. I always look forward to seeing the bikes that Turkey Creek customizes and there was no shortage on 32 Below’s Grand Opening day. You can also look for Happy Hours Monday thru Friday from 2 pm to 6 pm and 10 pm to close on Sunday through Thursday. During those times you can find similar deals to the ones on Bike Nights. Personally I’m excited for the $2.50 wells. Look for Bike Nights on Wednesday; there is plenty of parking in front and on the side of the building and a huge back parking lot with patio entrance to the bar. The place closes at 1:30 so you have plenty of time to drop in on Bike Nights. Check them out on facebook at facebook/pages/32-Below or give them a call at 913-322-3332 for more information.
