The weather was cold but attendance was good and the great bikes in the show gave the crowd some fine machines to look at. This year’s theme was “race bikes “ or “competition” and the pristine bikes and their stories came. The winner of special Racer 1100 series was Rodney Noel with his 1971 Harley Davidson XLCH-HD. Also included in the nice display as you entered the show was an XR-750, BSA, K model and Jack Larson’s duel carb Knucklehead racer……”It’s fast “ and more. It was a really nice display of bikes. As you walk further into the show over 13 different brands of bikes were represented. A few less bikes this year didn’t take away from the quality of the bikes. The 1911 Pierce brought by Tim Thoele was just amazing. I am a part of Santa Fe Trail and a lot of people do a lot of hard work to make this show happen. Thanks to all of them. One of our members had a poster made from the show poster and offered racers to sign it if they had raced before 1980, (What a great idea) it just drew the racers together. It was so cool to see how many racers came to the show. And a couple times I noticed familiar faces from race history getting to see each other again. This is a rare and close knit bunch of pretty tough guys and gals, no matter if your racing was dirt, scrabbles, track or speed. Wow, what an excellent group in motorcycle history to pay tribute to the bikes and the riders. My late friend Rosie had 2 bikes in the show in his memory and the black number 88 K-model is always eye candy. Dale Verts, (Rosie’s brother) traveled a good distance to bring the K model and 2 other race bikes. Thanks to Dale and everyone who brought a bike to the show. The weather was questionable and the club members appreciate your support. The day before in Sedalia, Yeager’s had to cancel their show due to the weather. Our t-shirt and poster design really rocked this year and the food was even more amazing. Breakfast and lunch were great. Thank you to the girls who make it happen. Your hard work really shows in the quality of the food. And the awesome smell of cookies baking while you’re looking at cool, old bikes is pretty enticing. The winners list shows the quality of motorcycles that attended.
