A SILENT SIGH Although I might seem at first glance to be a strong and tough man, I assure you that this toughness is only skin deep. Beneath my hard shell is a mere boy, a boy who doesn’t have the strength to withstand being criticized 24/7. This boy cares if you hate him, because it will never be just you. There will always be others like you to hurt this boy. I know that this won’t matter to you, but before retiring to bed at night, please think for a moment about how many boys have you hurt that day. If you can then justify all your actions, then I have no problems. You might be 6 ft tall, and may be very strong. Emotionally you may think you’re like Fort Knox. But I know that behind all that bravado is another boy. Another boy who always feels misunderstood. Another boy who spends hours thinking about his false shell. I don’t pretend to exactly understand your feelings, but I do understand the hurt they cause you, for I have felt pain and know the sadness and insecurity is induces. I know that no one’s life is perfect. Everyone faces troubles on the social front. Everybody has secrets they won’t share or moments they would like to forget. But what saddens me is that people never learn from their struggles. The get past their struggles and then they become the reasons for other’s struggles. We don’t make sacrifices for our friends but we always expect a helping hand when we ourselves are in troubled waters. Now every time someone hurts you, try to guess why he is doing that. You and I seem to be reasonable men, so why should we assume that this other person won’t be? Probably he has a lot on
