article and photography by June Johnston Food,” taking 1/2 teaspoon daily in some juice. He does eat meat, but not much and eats sweets after every meal, maybe fruit but especially Hershey bars or M&M’s. Lloyd recently drove to Salt Lake City to a yearly banquet at the Utah Federal Credit Union. He sang for them while he was there, a little song that he also sang for me – which was a delight – “The West, A Nest, and You, Dear.” From there he went to Heber, Utah to the Cowboy Poetry show where he recited a poem that his father taught him when he was a little boy, “Little Dog Under the Wagon.” He and some friends sing for a couple of nursing homes in the Star Valley area every Sunday evening. Lloyd says he has over 50 songs he can still sing, most of them from memory. Lloyd has five children, over 40 great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild. His five siblings are still living, the youngest being 83. His parents both died at the age of 79, but he has one relative that lived to be over 106 years old. He is a member of the John Birch Society and a strong advocate for The New American Man. I asked him if he has any secrets for living a long life and he replied, “My work is enjoyable and life is enjoyable. The secret to living a long life is to be happy.” Lloyd added that he sees no reason to retire. WLM
