AHS Tigers Tie Up Kirby Cougars In Season Opener

The
Arlington
Tigers opened their
2014 season with a 246 victory over Kirby
on August 22.
Junior tailback
Keelon Webber led the
way with three
touchdowns, two on
the ground and one
through
the
air. Webber scored in
the first half on a four
yard run set up by a
twenty two yard pass
from freshman Tate
Kolwyck to senior
Jackson Boring.
A close game at the
half with the score at 7
-6,
Arlington
dominated the third
and fourth quarters
with a strong showing
from the defense led
by senior captains
Jonathon Mabone and
Hunter Clay.
After struggling to
get the offense going
in the first half, the
Tigers took advantage
of great field position
and strong play from
their special teams in
September 2014

The Tigers will be
at home on August
29 in a non-district
game against the
Collierville Dragons
who won their season
opener 30-18 against
the Bolton Wildcats.
The Tigers travel to
Bartlett to face the
Panthers
on
September 5, returning
home on September
12 to take on Oakland
(Murfreesboro).

our high school students to
be educated there, the need
for a facility in Lakeland has
made itself ever present. I
believe that without starting
today, effectively, that trek
towards building this school,
we set Lakeland up to fail in
the future.”
These words, spoken by
Lakeland Commissioner
Gene Torrey at the August 7
Board of Commissioners
meeting, sum up the beliefs
underlying the push by the
Lakeland School System
and
Board
of
Commissioners to construct
a new school building within
the next three years.
As sponsor of the
ordinance establishing a
special property tax, Torrey
introduced a presentation by
Lakeland School System
Superintendent Ted Horrell
on “The Case for Additional
Facilities.”
While ultimately focusing
on the anticipated growth in
the number of students in
b o t h La k e l a n d a n d
Arlington, Horrell began his
case by emphasizing that
Lakeland residents are in a
unique situation even among
Shelby County because their
municipal
school
system cannot educate all of
its
students
from
kind ergarten thro ugh
graduation in its own
