WE THE PEOPLE STATE FINALS STATE STUDENTS AND SCHOOLS COMPETE IN ANNUAL WE THE PEOPLE STATE FINALS Century High School Students from Bismarck receive their awards for being the Overall Winner of this year’s We The People State Competition. Another record number of students and a new school participated in the state finals of the We The People competition January 16 in Bismarck. The We the People program is supported by the State Bar Association of North Dakota, and the annual competition has been held in the state for five years. The program’s state coordinator is Dr. Donna Pearson, from the social studies division of the secondary education department at the University of North Dakota’s Department of Teaching and Learning. The district coordinator is Ray Holmberg, also of Grand Forks, a retired high school counselor who has served in the North Dakota State Senate for 36 years. The program was developed by the National Center for Civic Education that engages students in a curriculum designed to foster understanding of the institutions of American democracy, including the Constituti
