2014 COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARDS
Christopher Myers − East Central Judicial District
Myers is the First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of North
Dakota. Besides keeping up a very busy trial schedule over the
years, he has devoted himself to coaching youth hockey for his
daughter in the Fargo Freeze Youth Hockey Association. Myers has
devoted many hours of his time over several years as a coach and has
achieved tremendous results with his players with both his hockey
instruction and his life lessons. His focus for the players is to always
to do the right thing and always try your best.
Kristi Pettit Venhuizen − Northeast Central
Judicial District
Judge David Reich − South Central Judicial
District
Reich has been involved in the Bismarck community in a number
of ways, and most recently began a running group called RADD,
Runners Against Destructive Decisions. After seeing many of the
same people back in Drug Court, Reich decided to start the group
to help break the cycle of addiction by encouraging them to invest
time in healthy alternatives and meeting new people. Reich runs
with several people at 6:30 a.m. three days a week, and is planning
to organize a 5K program and an annual running event to bring
more attention to addiction issues in the Bismarck-Mandan area.
Pettit Venhuizen’s involvement in the Grand Forks community
includes being on the board for six years and a past president of
the Grand Forks Foundation for Education; a board member of
for seven years and a past president of Agassiz Enterprises and
a board member and past president of the North Dakota Ballet
Company. She currently is a member of the United Way board and
chair of the lawyer section campaign division and grant committee.
Pettit Venhuizen also serves on the Crime Stoppers Board of
Directors, the Delta Gamma Fraternity House Corporation and is a
chancellor for the Episcopal Diocese of North Dakota. She also is a
regular guest speaker for the UND Criminal Justice Association.
