Dear Parents

October 2015
Autumn is almost upon us and
that signals some perennial TES
calendar highlights that we
have enjoyed celebrating this
month. Halloween came early
for us this year when we celebrated on October 23rd to
avoid a clash with Sports Day
on October 30th. The early
festivities did nothing to dampen our usual array of ghosties
and ghoulies on campus.
Our second annual Terry Fox
run saw a sterling effort across
all sections of the ESC with
students and staff committed
to a fundraising 3K walk and a
7K run in the drizzle of Yangmingshan. Last year we raised a
total of 847,000 NTD for a
cancer research project at the
Mackay Memorial Hospital and
we were proud to present our
TES cheque to Dr Liang of the
Cancer Research Team. The
Canadian Representative for
Taiwan, Mr Jonathan Brasnett,
joined our students for the 7K
run and the Fox family themselves sent their best wishes
for our event on the day.
Watch this space for a further
update on the money our community raised to combat cancer.
This term the BSHS has hosted
a series of Parent-Teacher
evenings that have been exceptionally well attended and I
would like to take this opportunity to thank our parent
community for their attendance at these important events.
Ms Rana has been working
hard with students and parents
to make these much more of a
‘team’ event, with parents now
required, where possible, to
attend with their child. Our
students have been coached in
taking notes during the interviews, from which they craft
‘SMART’ academic targets. We
know that our students, as well
as our parents and teachers,
take their academic success
very seriously and we are sure
that this approach will reap
dividends in their continued
academic success.
Finally, a huge thank you to our
ESCPA who did a great job
supporting our ESC Sports Day
today at Taipei Arena. It is an
event in which our TES Values
are truly showcased and it
would not be possible without
the willing volunteers who
keep us fed and watered, as
well as the skilled logistical
planning of Ms Simmons and
our wonderful PE team. Lots of
sore muscles tomorrow I am
sure; but happy memories too.
