August 2015
Welcome from the BSHS Head
Chrysta Garnett, Head of British Secondary and High School Section
Dear Parents and Students
A very warm welcome back to
the new academic year 201516. I hope that you enjoyed a
wonderfully relaxing summer
break with your families. It was
a fairly dramatic end to the
vacation with Typhoon
Soudelor hitting Taiwan at the
most inopportune time, but
luckily the ESC campus was
relatively unscathed. Our
maintenance and ICT teams
made speedy work of the repairs so that we were ready to
open doors on time for our
returning and new students.
The tennis courts at the new
Sports Facility remain out of
action for the time being but
should be ready to use again
within the next couple of
weeks.
The holidays can of course be
a tense time for our H2 and
H4 students as they await their
IGCSE and IB results, but I am
thrilled to convey my congrat-
ulations to both cohorts and
their families for their stellar
results. Our new H3s achieved
an impressive 95% IGCSE A*C pass rate and more H4s than
ever before gained the full IB
Diploma, maintaining our excellent track record as an IB
World School. We wish our
graduates the very best as they
go on to study at some of the
world’s most prestigious universities.
We welcomed over 40 new
students in total into the British Secondary and High School
this year, a group comprised of
many different nationalities
who I am sure will continue to
enrich our diverse student
population in the coming year.
As always at the start of a new
academic year, several new
staff members join us at the
ESC campus in all sections. In
this Newsletter you will find
introductions from each of
them. I am sure students will
enjoy the breadth of experience that this year’s new staff
group bring with them and will
be inspired in the classroom to
learn under their guidance.
As our enrolment grows and
our curriculum offerings become broader, we have also
had to lengthen the school day
for some of our High School
students, by adding a period 9
& 10. We have only added
these where absolutely necessary and thank parents and
teachers for their understanding and flexibility in accommodating this change.
Finally, we have many exciting
ECAs on offer to students this
year, some of which are brand
new, which we hope our students will take advantage of
and enjoy.
I look forward to all of our
students and our families enjoying a productive and enjoyable year ahead.
