September 2014 Welcome from the BSHS Head Chrysta Garnett, Head of British Secondary and High School Section Dear Parents My thanks to the many parents who showed their support for two very well attended BSHS events this month: the Parents Information Evening and the H4 UCC Evening. It always gives me great pleasure to meet you at these events and see how engaged and supportive our parents are of our students’ academic pursuits. For parents of the new Year 7s, please note that Parents Evening is coming up on October 2nd. We look forward to seeing you there. This month the BSHS put TES firmly on the global map with our contributions to the Teaching Moment in Time project, coordinated by the UK’s biggest educational publication The Times Educational Supplement. The only school in Taiwan to take part, we were delighted to be commended participants in this initiative. See how we contributed to this global event here: http://www.tes.co.uk/ article.aspx? storyCode=6436633#.VB6lpfmSx 8E The arrival of our new Chromebook laptops this week has caused some excitement in the BSHS. They are now available for teacher and student use in lessons, along with more new Samsung Galaxy tablets. With 8+ hours of battery life, their lightweight components and use of Google Apps, they are an excellent learning tool for the classroom. It signifies another first for TES, as we are the first school in Taiwan to take delivery of this new kit and I look forward to seeing what our students can do with them in the coming months. Finally, members of the Student Council will be leading a celebration of World Teacher’s Day on Friday, 3rd October next week to show their appreciation of the wonderful work that teachers do every day. It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to teach young people and shape their growing minds, interests and characters and it is a role that requires a certain amount of stamina and dedication. I would also like to take this opportunity to join the Student Council in thanking all of the teachers at the ESC who do such a great job.
