TAYLOR CHAMPOUX ‘13
Visible Invisibles
Rearview
About the Work
For Visible Invisibles, I created the image by combining four of
my own individual drawings into one relief print. The top two are
homeless men that I saw near I-94 exit ramps, the bottom left is of
a Dutch woman in the city of Groningen, and the bottom right is of
a man in Glasgow. My strange artistic attraction to the subject of
homeless people has been ongoing since May, and I cannot fully
explain why it struck me. I don’t believe that most people really see
the homeless - or if they do, they forget within a matter of minutes.
Drawing them makes me feel as if I am acknowledging their
occupation of that space. It also shows me details easily missed
when passing them by.
Rearview is the first print in a series created based off of homeless
people encountered within the Twin CIties metro and in Europe.
This piece reflects the anonymous nature of the homeless, how
we never know them individually but rather en masse as a sort of
generic stereotype.
About Taylor
I am a recent graduate of Macalester College, where I majored
in Studio Art and completed a senior honors art project as part
of my degree. My work isn’t completely discrete in terms of
subject matter or media, and I work with anything ranging from
relief printmaking, graphite, pen and ink, watercolor to oil paint. In
general, my work deals with figurative subjects or impressions of
landscapes. To see more of Taylor’s work, visit
