ZOË RODINE ‘13
Jellybeans
About the Work
I originally wrote a version of this piece in the spring of
2011 and performed it as a staged monologue. In the
summer of 2009, my best friend died from cancer at the
age of 18. This piece has been part of my grieving and
memorializing process, as well as an examination of
what it means to mature while a friend is fixed in your
memory as an adolescent.
About Zoë
Zoë Rodine decided she was a writer when she was
four. Since then, she’s been working to make this
statement credible, writing fiction and an assortment of
other things and receiving a degree in English/Creative
Writing from Macalester in 2013. She is now living in
New York City and working as a writer for a branding
firm. “Stuffed Animals,” her first publication outside
the Macalester sphere of influence, appeared in the
November/December 2013 issue of Cicada Magazine.
