Introducing : The Back in the Day Bakery Cookbook

By Kim McCallie

While I enjoy immediately falling in love with a new cookbook , I find that I can build a more meaningful relationship with a one that endears itself to me over time . Yes , Initially I may find a few recipes that appeal to me and cause me to circle the page numbers for future reference and that is good . But later , I will go back and find even more recipes that I like and more circles are drawn . First impressions are good , but that lasting impression is even better . The best cookbooks are those that are new to me every time I open them . One of those cookbooks is The Back in the Day Bakery Cookbook by Cheryl and Griffith Day .

The Back in the Day Bakery Cookbook is a compilation of recipes served in the bakery that shares the cookbook ’ s name and is owned by the husband and wife team of Griff and Cheryl Day . The couple opened the Back in the Day Bakery in 2002 in Savannah , Georgia with the dream of building a sense of community with the locals while also creating a bakery that would attract visitors to the beautiful city of Savannah . Both Cheryl and Griff are self-taught bakers . Cheryl oversees the sweet treats while Griff handles the savory side of the bakery . Both sweet and savory recipes are included in the cookbook .
Released in March 2012 , The Back in the Day Bakery Cookbook has become a permanent fixture in my kitchen . If you are drawn to classic Southern flavors , you will find such things as Peach Cobbler Muffins , Southern Corn Cakes , Red Velvet Cake , Humming Bird Cake , Bourbon Pecan Pie , Sweet Potato Pie , ‘ Nana Puddin ’, Pecan Sandras , and Sunny Lemon Bars .
