Marriage took us down diverging paths as one of us fell in love with a Mississippi boy and the other ( gasp !) a Yankee . And while we may have ended up on different sides of the country , a Southern sensibility connects us across the miles like so many roots on a Loblolly Pine tree . It winds it ’ s way into every aspect of our lives . From the way we decorate our homes to insisting that our children properly address their elders to knowing full well that hospitality is about your heart not your house .
So while one of us can actually claim Southern legitimacy by residing in a state which falls south of the Mason Dixon Line and the other in a part of the country where kids grow up never catching fireflies in mason jars , we both cling to a heritage which has less to do with the state you call home and everything to do with your state of mind . No matter where life takes us we will always treasure that heritage . And we will never forget the joy of that first heavenly bite into Mamaw ’ s homemade rolls .

Painter ’ s drop cloths have become one of the most multi-purpose materials in the life of a DIY ’ er . From window treatments to pillows , headboards to table runners , their versatility keeps the possibilities endless . Once laundered the fabric takes on a soft , almost linen-like quality . Recently I turned to the drop cloth when I decided to update the table skirt on my nightstand . This simple , no-sew project took mere minutes and yet looks much more labor intensive . I had the best intentions of following all of the proper steps necessary in making a round tablecloth . I thought I would use fancy words like “ circumference ” and “ diameter ”. Then I realized that the drop cloth was so big I wouldn ’ t need to use those fancy words after all . I simply placed the old table skirt on top of the drop cloth , traced around it and cut it out . In lieu of hemming , I added bullion fringe to the bottom for a more luxurious feel . And that ’ s all it takes to make a no-sew , “ fancy ” drop cloth table skirt .
