a AS YOUNG GIRL, BLAIRE BURDETTE DREAMED OF OWNING A CLOTHING AND HOME INTERIOR BOUTIQUE. “I feel you can express yourself by what you wear and also by the style and furnishings in your home. I wanted people to be able to find one-of-a-kind pieces for their wardrobe, as well as their home. You will be amazed how one little thing, like a new pillow or lamp, changes a room dramatically without spending a lot of money.” Opened in 2012, Pieces For You and Your Home, offers customers home accessories, furniture, fine china and serving pieces in addition to women’s and children’s clothes and accessories. Blaire attributes her passion for home interior to her mother, Lynda Grant, who co-owns Southern Flooring and Interiors, which is located next door to Pieces. When it came to refurbishing her own home, Blaire was excited. “Our home was built in the 1970s, and it was love at first sight when I saw the outside of it. The inside had not been updated; but, the moment I walked in, I could see right past that and envision what I wanted to do with the space. All of the work on our house was done through Southern Flooring and Interiors in Florence. I am very fortunate to be able to work side by side with my mom. This project was so special, because she helped me with every decision. She has great taste, and I value her opinion very much. Our tastes are a little different, but they complement each other well. I could not have done my renovation without her. Whenever I couldn’t make a decision about something, she would put a different perspective on it… which is exactly what I needed.” Together, Blaire and Lynda completely renovated the kitchen and most of the bathrooms, widened doorways, painted the entire inside, and changed the flooring. “I love a big dining room, so we turned the existing living room into the dining room and made the old dining room an office.” The outside of the home is colonial style, but inside is a mixture of traditional and modern decor. “I love mixing patterns and layering rugs. I also love pairing antiques with new pieces in a room to give the space some history.” Blaire with husband, Bradley, and daughter, Gainsley continued.... SHEMAGAZINE.COM NOVEMBER 2015 97
