deck the halls Higher Grounds Photography T Through the years, Angie has followed many themes in decorating. “Sometimes it was red and white, all red or gold, all balls, small red bows, geese, teddy bears, gingerbread men, Santas, all religious, and so on. For many years, I just hung all kinds of things on the tree, a mix of ornaments. I still love trees with all kinds of decorations, and my smaller trees in kitchen and den reflect that.” For the past three years, Angie has been a fan of elves. “I fell in love with an elf tree I saw at a local shop and I was hooked. I’ve purchased many elves and my main tree is ‘elfish,’ with a few other special ornaments included. Everyone loves that tree!” Angie’s home, while beautiful all year round, truly becomes something warm, loving and unique each Christmas. “Seeing that sparkle in the eyes of family and friends when they enter gives me such a feeling of accomplishment at conveying my love of the season. That is extra special to me. It makes me happy when my home makes others happy.” As a consummate decorator, Angie has these words of advice for you: “Take your time, use things you love and that please you, and get help when/if you need it. That is very helpful when looking for something specific.” This year, Angie is looking forward to being with loved ones, sharing love and memories, and the joy of celebrating the birth and presence of Jesus in their lives. “Christmas is LOVE. The older I get, the more sentimental I get. Gifts that are exchanged now are mostly gifts of the heart – a gesture, an experience, or time. There’s much less shopping for material things and the hustle and bustle and rushing around to find just the right thing for someone just because they are getting you something. It makes me happier to concentrate on worship and giving of myself. That’s what it’s all about. My wish is for everyone to remember the true meaning of Christmas and to keep that spirit of love and giving in our hearts all the time.” SEEING THAT sparkle IN THE EYES OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS WHEN THEY ENTER . . . IT MAKES ME HAPPY WHEN MY HOME MAKES OTHERS happy. “ “ Angie Roop, a retired school teacher from the Darlington County School System, resides in Florence with her husband, Dr. Tom Roop.
