T Tony Bennett sang about a special place called Christmasland in his 1968 album, Snowfall. “Come along, follow me. Let me take you to Christmasland. It’s a place very near where you find your own wonderland waiting there for you. You will see all the friends you knew, Santa Claus will be there. There’ll be toys and some mistletoe… All the things that you loved as a child many years ago. Come and take my hand, we’ll find happiness. Let’s go to Christmasland. Come and take my hand, we’ll go, you and I, to find our Christmasland.” After visiting Tammy Blizard’s home during the holidays, one can’t help but feel as if they’ve arrived in that special place Tony sang about many years ago. For Tammy, Christmas is the best holiday of all. Not only is it a time for family and fellowship in celebrating the birth of Christ, but it’s also a time for her to express her passion for decorating in the season she loves most. As the woman known to reside in “The Christmas House,” Tammy didn’t get the chance to fully celebrate Christmas until she reached adulthood. “As a child, Christmas wasn’t greatly celebrated in my household. That’s why I’ve always gone all out with decorations and such, so my children and grandchildren will have fonder memories. Seeing the excitement on my grandchildren’s faces is worth all of the hard work I put into decorating each year.” Each year after Halloween, she begins pulling out boxes full of Christmas splendor. “I start early because I want every room decorated for the kids by Thanksgiving. They love coming over to see everything.” For Tammy, this includes adorning the house from top to bottom with all things Christmas. Her hallway, known as Winter Wonderland, is covered with snowflakes of all shapes and sizes, and bigger snowflakes hang from the ceiling. There’s an inflatable Santa who floats in the pool and one who sits in her sunroom. “I love my inflatable Santa in my sunroom every year. He’s animated and the smaller grandchildren love him!” There are also many trees with different themes. Tammy’s favorite is her “singing” Frosty the Snowman tree, which sits at the end of the Winter Wonderland hallway. “Everyone in my family thinks I’m Christmas crazy, but they all love it. And, I love seeing my home turn into Christmas Land!” CONTINUED... SHEMAGAZINE.COM DECEMBER 2015 85
