Wood you like a ride?

It may sound like a bee in a bonnet

but Bamboo Bee is set to make cycling greener than ever with functional yet stylish bicycles made of bamboo.

Forget about aluminum or titanium for your bike, where even with bamboo as a substitute, you won't get a poor ride from this Singapore company that handcrafts its bicycles.

It all began after the founder, Mr Sunny Chuah, built his first bamboo bike and took it for a solo expedition around Central Asia.

“The experience during my expedition led to the creation of a range of affordable and stylish bamboo bicycles, tapping on the natural dampening property of the sustainable timber to offer a magic carpet-like riding experience,” said Chuah.

And it was not just Chuah who thought a bamboo bike would be a great ride.

To get the business moving, Bamboo Bee pitched the business on crowdsource funding platform Kickstarter.

In just 33 days, Bamboo Bee secured funding of US$63,879, and got off to crafting 300 bikes.

“Bamboo Bee is a company that will learn, re-learn and un-learn the trends in the industry and present unique designs for you in due time - in which art meets function,” he said.
