Dear Business-minded Aspiring Public Leader:
Thank you for applying to the Public Leadership Institute of Polk County, a program of
BusinessVoice, the political arm of the Lakeland Area Chamber of Commerce.
The nonpartisan program is a “pre-campaign” candidate and public leadership school with the
mission of identifying and educating Polk County business-minded leaders who are interested in
exploring the possibility of one-day seeking public office and using business principles to address
public issues.
Applicants from throughout Polk County are invited.
There is no commitment required to run for office, merely consider the possibility of seeking a
public leadership position in the future. The program cannot accept filed candidates for office.
There is no cost to apply and all participants will receive a full scholarship thanks to the
support of our sponsors.
Only a limited number of applicants will be selected to participate, based on a competitive
application and interview process.

The program will include four classes - October 21, November 4, November 18, December 2 - at
Southeastern University from 9:00am - 4:00pm with a VIP reception following the last class on
December 2.
Attendance at the entire Leaders School is mandatory for acceptance into the program.

BusinessVoice, program sponsors or anyone affiliated with the program directly or
indirectly;
· this is a program for prospective public leaders and not for campaign workers or current or
aspiring political consultants;
· the selection committee will choose the class it believes represents the program’s mission;
· the program cannot accept publicly-declared or filed candidates for office.
