The ability to switch from .68 caliber paintballs to First Strike rounds and back again is an excellent and extremely useful feature that will enable an MR5-shooting player to play magazine-fed paintball or use a regular hopper, or, in a large scenario environment, use both regular paintballs and First Strike rounds with devastating effect. Though it’s an affordable paintball gun retailing at only $250, the Spyder MR5 offers an impressive list of features and unique, impressive capability that will enable a player using it to handle practically anything on the paintball field! accuracy is impressive over all ranges and should the owner plan to use First Strike rounds regularly, a low-power scope or red dot sight would deliver impressive results. The included magazine feeds well and functioned without issue throughout testing, though the composite feed neck used with a hopper must be used with care to prevent cracks or breaks. Some players will prefer to simply leave the M4 stock off the marker and shoulder the bottle to keep weight down. As with any other Spyder, regular cleaning and lubrication is critical to ensuring consistent performance. Though it may be an affordable marker, its low price tag doesn’t make the Spyder MR5 cheap. The MR5’s unique capabilities, light weight and list of features make it an outstanding choice for players looking to experience magazine fed paintball, or newer players who want the capability to experience paintball with a hopper or a magazine, or both, without the desire to spend hundreds, if not thousands of dollars. Though the Spyder MR5 is capable of operating with CO2 or compressed air, compressed air is certainly the propellant any player with a choice should use as Spyders simply do not like CO2.
