Paintball Sports Promotions (PSP) has made
Chicago home to one of their five yearly
events since the league’s inception in 2002,
continuing the tradition of yearly Chicago paintball tournaments held by the NPPL
and Lively Series dating back more than 25
years. On the field Chicago has been one of
the least predictable events on the pro circuit, with seemingly a different team winning
the event every year. Recent winners include
Houston Heat, Moscow Red Legion and Dynasty. Off the field the event has been much
more predictable with temperatures in the
90s and periods of devastating rain happening just about every year.
This year’s Chicago Open was once again
held at CPX Sports in Joliet, Illinois, one of
the best fields in the mid-west. The event
began on Wednesday, June 18 with check-in,
field walks, and the trade show opening. The
divisional games began on Thursday with the
pro games starting Friday morning. The PSP
continued its excellent webcast coverage at
www.PaintballAccess.com, airing all of the
main field games throughout the event. More
than 180 teams from all parts of the globe
competed in one of nine Chicago Open divisions.
The PSP Chicago event had a nice vendor
turnout including AJAS, Anthrax, Bunker
Kings, DLX, DYE, Empire, Exalt, Gangster
Paintball, GI Sportz, HK Army, KM Straps,
MacDev, Ninja Paintball, PBRack
Planet Eclipse, Rayjus, Raza, Trade My Gun
and Virtue Paintball.
Coming into this event it was LA Infamous
winning Dallas and San Diego Dynasty taking the Mid Atlantic Open (MAO). Tampa Bay
Damage, Omaha Vicious, San Antonio X-Factor and Edmonton Impact were playing well
but just not able to break through for a first
place victory in either of the league’s first
two events. Would we have a third winner in
the pro division in as many events?
